How Much Is the Komodo National Park Entrance Fee for Foreigners in 2026 and 2027?

The Komodo National Park entrance fee for foreign visitors is IDR 250,000 per person per visit, set by Government Regulation PP No. 36/2024. Indonesian visitors pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 on weekends and public holidays. Trekking, wildlife observation and snorkelling inside the park are covered by that figure.

This is the most contested number in Labuan Bajo. Search it and you will find IDR 150,000, IDR 250,000, IDR 600,000, IDR 650,000, IDR 900,000 and a long-dead IDR 3,750,000 “membership”, all presented with equal confidence. Most of those figures are not wrong so much as mislabelled: they are bundles that contain the entrance fee plus several other charges, quoted as if they were the entrance fee itself.

How much is the Komodo National Park entrance fee in 2026 and 2027 for foreigners?

The legal basis is PP No. 36 of 2024, which replaced PP 12/2014 and was communicated publicly by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo through the Ministry’s conservation directorate. That regulation is what a ranger at the gate is enforcing. It is the number you should expect to see on any receipt labelled “entrance”.

So why does everyone quote IDR 600,000 to IDR 900,000?

Because that is roughly what a visitor actually pays, once everything is added up — and operators find it simpler to quote one bundled figure than to explain four line items to somebody who is already halfway up a gangway.

A typical bundle for a foreign visitor doing a Komodo or Rinca landing contains:

• the statutory entrance component, IDR 250,000;
• regional retribution levied by the local government, which is a genuinely separate charge with its own legal basis;
• a ranger and trail service charge — you cannot walk on Komodo or Rinca unaccompanied, and the ranger who walks with you is paid from this;
• in some cases a per-boat anchorage or harbour element, divided across the passengers.

Add those and IDR 600,000–900,000 is entirely plausible as a total. What it is not is “the entrance fee”. The distinction matters when you are comparing two quotes: an operator quoting IDR 250,000 and one quoting IDR 900,000 may be charging you exactly the same money, with one of them simply telling you less about the rest.

Our rule when you book with us: ask for the number itemised. Any operator that cannot break a bundled park charge into its components is either not paying attention to the regulation or not passing all of it through. What happened to the IDR 3,750,000 conservation membership?

It was cancelled. In 2022 a plan was announced to charge a “membership” of IDR 3,750,000 per person per year for access to Komodo and Padar, framed as a conservation levy and a visitor cap. It drew a strong response from local tourism workers, was suspended, and never came into force as a general entrance requirement.

You will still find 2022–2023 blog posts describing it as current. It is not. If a 2027 quote contains a line resembling it, challenge the quote.

Who pays, and where

There is no ATM once you leave the harbour, and mobile signal is patchy across most of the park. Draw the cash you need for park charges in Labuan Bajo town on the day before you board.

Does the fee change if you only sail past?

The entrance fee is charged for entering the park — and virtually every Komodo itinerary enters it, because Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo, Rinca, Taka Makassar and the Karang Makassar manta channel all sit inside the boundary. A trip that stays strictly outside the park, for example one that only visits Kelor, Kanawa and Sebayur near Labuan Bajo, does not attract park entry. That is a genuinely different, cheaper day out — and a fair reason for a low-priced day trip to be low-priced. Just be clear which one you are buying.

Budgeting it properly

For a foreign visitor on a standard 3D2N with one Komodo or Rinca landing, budget IDR 700,000 to IDR 1,000,000 per person for the whole park layer, and treat anything under IDR 400,000 as a signal that a landing has been dropped from the itinerary. Set against a boat cost that can be as low as USD 200 per head on a full group charter, the park layer is a meaningful share of the total — which is exactly why it deserves a line of its own in your budget rather than a shrug.
