Should I stay a night in Labuan Bajo before the boat trip?
Stay the night if any of the following is true — which, for most people, is all of them:
- you have checked baggage;
- you are travelling with children, or with anyone who does not move quickly through an airport;
- your flight is not the first departure of the day out of Denpasar or Jakarta;
- you are on a scheduled open trip rather than a private charter;
- you are travelling in December, January or February, when weather delays cluster;
- you want to be rested for a 04:30 wake-up on the Padar morning.

If you are boarding at 09:30, a resort forty-five minutes away means leaving at 08:15 with luggage, which reintroduces exactly the stress you paid to avoid. What to do with the evening
You do not need to fill it, but it is a pleasant one if you want to. Sylvia Hill and Bukit Cinta give the harbour sunset over the near islands, ten to twenty minutes by road. The Kampung Ujung waterfront night market is the standard dinner — grilled fish chosen from ice, sold by weight, eaten at plastic tables by the water. The practical evening list matters more: draw cash, because there is no ATM once you leave the harbour and park and ranger charges are settled in rupiah. Buy motion-sickness tablets if you are prone to it — they work taken before boarding, not after symptoms start. Charge everything. Should you also stay a night after the boat?
Usually not necessary. Boats return to the pier between 11:00 and 13:00 on the final day, which makes an afternoon or early-evening flight comfortable. A 14:00 departure is tight; from 16:00 onward is relaxed.
